Lonetree Tree Programs
Lonetree’s Forestry department is responsible for the care and maintenance of all trees on city-owned property, including parks, open space, public spaces, and right-of-ways. Trees are a significant part of Lonetree’s urban environment, providing beauty, shade, and ambiance. Click here for more information about the City of Lonetree’s tree programs.
Emerald Ash Borer
Unfortunately, the dreaded Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) arrived in Lonetree in 2023, and the beetle continues to spread throughout the City. Pretty soon, untreated trees will start to show signs of EAB damage and will most likely require removal. Lonetree’s forester expects all property owners to manage and treat their Ash yard trees. Check out the Ross Tree EAB Handbook to understand your treatment options. Check out the Ross Tree EAB Handbook to understand your treatment options.
Tri-Level Fertilization Program
Ross Tree’s started its popular Tri-Level Fertilization Program in 2024. We use proprietary feeding formulations to help trees flourish in Denver’s arid climate and poor soils. The program has three feedings per year rather than two.

Why Does Sap Run in Maples in the Late Winter?
Believe it or not, Maple tree sap starts to run in Denver in the winter. During photosynthesis, little openings on leaves called stomata are open, allowing water to escape by transpiration. Water is pulled up from the ground through a tree’s xylem to fill the void left by transpiration. Trees store sugars as starch in branches, trunks, and roots for later use. Maples release an enzyme called amylase that turns the starches into sugar, which causes the sap to run.
Silver Poplars a Yard Tree or Trash Tree?
Silver Poplars grow to magnificent heights, dazzling us with their size, and peaceful, white, Aspen-like branch structure and dark trunks. However, the Silver Poplar is not on Denver’s list of recommended trees for several reasons. This species is highly susceptible to disease and tree insects. Basically, these trees have one aliment after another and require constant care.
