Ross Tree sends out a quarterly email newsletter to its customers.
Golden Tree Programs
Trees are a significant part of Golden’s urban environment, providing beauty, shade, and ambiance. The Golden Forestry Department plants and maintains the trees in city parks, public right-of-ways, and other public spaces. Click here for more information about the Golden’s tree programs.
Emerald Ash Borer
As of August 2025, Golden has no Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) official confirmations, but it has been detected in nearby communities like Lakewood, Arvada, and Denver. Hence, it poses a current and future threat to Golden’s Ash trees. The time to act is now because Ash have no immunity to the EAB. Golden’s forester expects all property owners to manage and treat their Ash yard trees. Check out the Ross Tree EAB Handbook to understand your treatment options.
Tri-Level Fertilization Program
Ross Tree’s started its popular Tri-Level Fertilization Program in 2024. We use proprietary feeding formulations to help trees flourish in Denver’s arid climate and poor soils. The program has three feedings per year rather than two.

Dutch Elm Disease Discovered Again
In Denver, about a hundred years ago, the City and homeowners planted approximately 100,000 American Elms, making them and the Silver Maple the most favored and numerous shade trees. The disease first appeared in Colorado in 1948 and then died out. However, it reappeared in 1968 and killed most American elms in the City, but not all of them. The disease reappeared in 2023.
Elm Leaf Pests Handbook
Elms growing in Denver need additional attention. Golden has Elm leave pests that feed on elm leaves, causing them to dry up and die. Heavily infested trees are unsightly with brown and skeletonized leaves. Repeated injuries weaken trees and make them prone to branch dieback and wind injury.
